Praying for our nation and for my own heart.

Very few of us will change the world. Most of us cannot even change ourselves, for we are a hardened and calloused people. None of us will change the world only for good; none of us will be the hero in everyone’s story. Essentially all of us will be forgotten in a century’s time.

A small portion of us, if we’re lucky, will change the modest sphere that so generously encircles us—the few people we have been entrusted to live alongside and care for—with our love.

It is still worth it to be a person, to be a nation, that can engage in winsome and generous dialogue; be empathetic and considerate towards all; and to lean towards others with curiosity instead of condemnation. This is not an easy thing to do, and it will be accomplished imperfectly at best.

Praying for our nation and for my own heart in all of this. Our country is broken but it is not irredeemable.

If you feel led to further engage in the comments—on this post or on any other post related to recent events—I’d ask you to also consider meeting up, in person, with someone over coffee to discuss these things in real time. Winsome and generous dialogue.
